I strongly believe that organizations using Generative AI – whether to write or design, should be transparent about the use. Customers have the right to know whether the products or services they’re buying are produced through models that train on stolen content. If you’re an organization, then your members, stakeholders, funders and donors have the right to know whether you’re using Generative AI for materials being produced.
Transparency on Generative AI is meant to disclose several things on different layers and provides a value proposition – that tells the world you prefer non-human generated content. So, be clear about that proposition and be open about its use.
Transparency on GEN AI, also tells the world that you’re ok with using a model that has trained on stolen content – whether it’s destroying precious books to scan, or using graphics and designs from real artists without permission.
Third, it also tells the world that you’re ok with using vast amount of resources (mostly water) to bypass the creative endeavour of artists and creatives.
Be clear and transparent, so that we can avoid purchasing products.
This being said, we know and understand that Generative AI and AI in general are being pushed. However, you have autonomy and voice to not go along with a practice that is using stolen content and is overall destructive. See what we did there? We wrote without the use of generative AI.
